Indian Muslim leaders condemn the western military campaign against Libya

Indian Muslim leaders condemn the western military campaign against Libya

New Delhi (20 March 2011): Prominent Indian Muslim leaders issued the following statement today:

While we reject and condemn the autocratic Gaddafi regime's murder of protesting Libyan civilians and we support the struggle of the Libyan people to free themselves of the shackles of a brutal dictatorship, we equally reject and condemn the western military campaign against the Gaddafi regime. This western campaign has clear imperialist and hegemonic designs against the oil wealth and the strategic geographical position of Libya. The same powers did not lift a finger against the brutal Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Syrian lands and the murderous zionist attacks against Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and the same powers are taking a diagonally opposite stand towards similar popular movements in some other Arab countries. We also condemn the Arab League for meekly providing a fig leaf for the western powers to interfere and occupy an Arab country.
The only acceptable way out of the current Libyan crisis is to support the Libyan transitional government with arms and resources enabling it to topple the tyrant regime in Tripoli. A people's movement must not be used to impose western control over yet another Muslim country. We genuinely fear that the current western military campaign will quickly lead to landing forces on the Libyan soil in order to loot Libyan oil wealth and plant a permanent military presence on its soil as has already happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. We strongly urge Arab countries not to fall in this trap and to refrain from offering their token support as it will be used to legitimise this neocolonial campaign.

Foreign military intervention in Libya unacceptable - PRESS RELEASE - By Indian Muslim Organisations

Foreign military intervention in Libya unacceptable

Joint statement of Muslim Organisations

New Delhi (4 March 2011): Muslim organisations in a joint statement have expressed their deep concern about the reports of a possible military intervention in Libya by America and NATO.

Indian Muslim organisations in a joint statement expressed their solidarity with the peoples struggle in Libya for restoration of democratic norms. They condemned the brutal repression unleashed by Colonel Gaddafi against his own people, in which hundreds of citizens have been killed. These organisations said that on the pretext of internal unrest in Libya, a foreign military intervention is not acceptable at all. Muslim public opinion rejects this approach categorically and will not tolerate it.

The USA and western powers have no business to act as world policeman and undermine the independence and sovereignty of any country. America and NATO have created enough disturbances in Iraq and Afghanistan killing lakhs of people. History would never forgive their crimes. They cannot be given the license to carry on their ill-advised adventures in other lands to create yet another crisis.

All that the western powers are interested in is Arab oil; human rights issue is just a convenient excuse to justify aggressive designs.

Indian Muslim organisations urged the Indian government to prevail upon America and its allies to restrain from any military intervention. India should also make all efforts to bring Indians safely home from Libya.

Press Statement

Appeal to Muslims and other Deprived Groups to form Local Census Committees in All Villages & Mohallas
To Assist Fully in Census Phase II on Population Enumeration between February 9 & 28, 2011

New Delhi: 25 January 2011, Mr Syed Shahabuddin, President All India Muslim Majlis-e- Mushawarat, has issued the following statement.

Phase II of the Census shall enumerate Population to produce the socio-economic demographic profile of the country. For this enumeration the Census Commissioner has framed a Schedule of Questions to be asked of all households. The results of this enumeration will have a direct bearing on the policies, development programs & financial allocations at every level for the next decade.

The enumerator will visit every household between 9 & 28 February, 2011 and speak to the heads of the households, and some other members, if necessary and record replies separately, for each household.

The Schedule has many questions including a question on Religion and another on Language and also on Age, Education, Marital Status and Physical Disability etc.

The AIMMM considers it imperative that all households participate fully in the Enumeration. All Muslims should indicate Islam  as their religion and their mother tongue as their Language. Those, whose mother tongue   is Urdu, specially in northern states should indicate Urdu, not any local dialect they may speak at home.

The AIMMM appeals to the educated youth among Muslims and all other deprived groups to form small Census committees in every mohalla and village which should accompany the enumerators from household to household & from family to family, to ensure that enumeration is universal and nobody is left out and that the replies by the households are recorded correctly.
